Not only is the venue feeding folks, but it’s also providing an opportunity for connections and comfort, and maybe a moment of transcendence from the anxiety and stress of a harsh, uncomfortable, and tragic reality.
Making any sort of impact through music requires an insane amount of work, as well as dedication, commitment, and inward-looking. From learning an instrument and writing songs to recording albums, booking shows, and embarking on tours, nothing good in music ever happens without a work ethic. Sure, there are times when inspiration for a song appears out of nowhere without effort or planning, but most momentum in music is generated by tedious non-musical work: writing emails, sticking to a regular rehearsal schedule, setting time aside each day to write music and play your instrument.
Luckily for myself, and all the other people out there like me, underneath the faded canopy of the bland mainstream lies a multiverse of challenging, engaging, explorative, enlivening work which I would say is the real “music of now,” and which I love deeply. So many colleagues and collaborators here in New York, bands with whom Tredici Bacci has had the honor of sharing bills, the musicians that are out creating their own platforms of presentation (because thats the only way to ensure that their voice will be heard), I admire them all so much and am endlessly inspired by them.

Another reason they check bank statements is for “buy here, pay here” loans. In other words, car loans that don’t necessarily go through a bank (or show up on your credit), large furniture or electronic purchases, etc. During the underwriting process, try to avoid making any big purchases or you can make the lender skittish.
“ZEZE”: Since there’s no F or F♭ anywhere, we could analyze this in E♭ minor or A♭ minor. Sticking an F in there sounds better to me, but we don’t know for sure which mode it’s in. And wait, this electro-pan-pipe, sweepy vox effect everyone’s been using on the hype-shouts this year — has this been around a while, or is it new? Asking for a friend.

My 128 kbps version of Mario’s ‘Let Me Love You’ still has the intro skit from the music video attached, hearing the song without it is jarring. With each layer of compression you can practically hear the thousands of others who shared and copied the same MP3, like a destructive digital fingerprint…. I’ve got dozens of tracks like these on my computer still. A 58 kbps copy of Kyuss’ ‘Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop’ that sounds like it’s being played through a payphone. A bootlegged CD of Hendrix demos transcoded up from somewhere to 128 kbps.”
Music sure has changed since I was a youth. The way we find new music, the way we listen, and the way we share what we’re listening to has all changed; and the political and social climate of today’s culture is reflected in today’s music in a way that has changed massively since 20 years ago*. But I don’t look back and think, “now that was good music!”
There are some slightly more expensive pedals built by Devi Ever FX like the Soda Meiser, the self-explanatory Shoegazer (used by Ringo Deathstarr) or the Rocket fuzz. They’ve got nearly endless sustain, can sound chaotic and super duper fuzzy. But Devi pedals are also pretty unpredictable, which can be fun but sometimes you have to fight with some disturbing frequencies that show up to the party. That’s what you get with analog pedals though — it’s the true experience!
